Quantum might be a gateway to A.I. Supremacy of Military Tech
China likely ahead in Quantum Sensing and Quantum Communications with Military Applications
Hey Everyone,
So all this shooting down of surveillance balloons got me thinking. When Governments are funding A.I. and Quantum computing is being tested by DARPA, there is a feeling that Quantum sensing and Quantum communications might have serious military applications China might be ahead of in compared to the West.
Quantum computing could also be a gateway to Quantum Machine Learning that could give the winning Nation a significant advantage in military conflicts. Even years ago analysts were warning about these things. China’s advances in quantum computing will give a new advantage to its armed forces, already the world’s third (second?) strongest, analysts say.
A lot of the warning came too late and the response even slower. Think about the final report from the government’s National AI Research Resource.
It recommends a new, multibillion-dollar research organization to improve the capabilities and accessibility of the field to U.S. scientists. The document presents “a roadmap and implementation plan for a national cyberinfrastructure aimed at overcoming the access divide, reaping the benefits of greater brainpower and more diverse perspectives and experiences.”
The NAIRR report (PDF) has been a long time coming: since the establishment of the task force back in 2020 headed by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. They haven’t been idle, in that time producing numerous smaller reports and an extensive “blueprint for an AI bill of rights”. Yet oddly Quantum sensing and Quantum communications are not as big of a deal apparently?
