French Defense Agency To Award Five French Startups €500 Million
France is doing its best to stay relevant in emerging tech.
Hey Everyone,
While Nation states get their Generative AI and Quantum computing strategy more set up, in terms of the intersection with National Defense spending, there seems to be some funding for the top Quantum startups of each country.
France is struggling to turn scientific discoveries into innovations, and the number of startups arising from research projects remains below expectations. However there is hope in a new movement of Generative AI startups around Paris and in a few promising Quantum computing startups in France.
The national strategy on quantum technologies in France, is endowed with cumulative state funding, including France 2030, of about €1 billion over four years, for a total public-private commitment of €1.8 billion.
This strategy is structured around 6 strategic objectives:
Develop quantum computing technologies and applications
Master quantum sensor technologies
Develop and disseminate post-quantum cryptography
Develop quantum communication technologies
Master enabling quantum technologies
In March, 2024 we found out the first startups that are winners of the grant.
Five French quantum computer-research startups were awarded contracts to develop two universal quantum computer prototypes by 2032.
France’s defense-procurement agency selected Alice & Bob, C12, Pasqal, Quandela and Quobly for the project.
The agency will invest up to €500 million (about US$545 million) in the project.
