Reports: China's Alibaba Shuts Down Quantum Lab

Hey Everyone,

I’m always watching how major Cloud leaders are innovating in Generative A.I. and Quantum computing to improve their future offering. So I was pretty shocked when I learned that Alibaba has dismantled their Quantum Computing Lab in late 2023. Especially after all that IBM, Microsoft, Google and AWS are doing with Quantum computing technologies.

Alibaba is in a different business model stage and needs to pivot more into Generative A.I. This could also mean Quantum computing while hyped is far from ready for the mainstream.

Alibaba clearly is a unique case, and its stock has plummeted in recent months and years. Ironically this might be a direct result of U.S. sanctions. Think about it, U.S. chip export restrictions have made it harder for Chinese firms to get critical chip supplies from U.S. companies.
